The Immortality Upgrade

Dawn Chan at The New Yorker writes on the reconciliation between Mormon transhumanism and technological progress. Although many transhumanists, who think that medical advancements will eventually overcome death, have rejected traditional religion, some have found that the immortality teachings of Joseph Smith bear a startling resemblance to their beliefs. “How will the resurrection come to pass? I don’t know for sure, but I believe that God won’t do for us what we can do for ourselves,” wrote Lincoln Cannon, who helped found the Mormon Transhumanist Association.
