After activists shifted their focus to the protection of women, several state legislatures passed measures to restrict access to abortion clinics in the name of women’s safety. “You can’t just focus on the child and not on the mother and her needs,” said Paige Comstock Cunningham, a longtime antiabortion activist who is a professor at Trinity International University in Illinois.
