The Most Important Abortion Case at the Supreme Court in a Generation Focuses on Women, Not Fetuses

At The Washington Post, Sandhya Somashekhar reports that the first abortion case in a decade facing the Supreme Court will challenge the argument that the procedure is harmful not only to the fetus, but to women as well. After activists shifted their focus to the protection of women, several state legislatures passed measures to restrict access to abortion clinics in the name of women’s safety. “You can’t just focus on the child and not on the mother and her needs,” said Paige Comstock Cunningham, a longtime antiabortion activist who is a professor at Trinity International University in Illinois.
