Some Evangelicals Struggle With Black Lives Matter Movement

Mark Oppenheimer of The New York Times writes that while the Black Lives Movement closely aligns with the social justice theology of the liberal denominations of Christianity, conservative religious groups have a harder time embracing its message. While conservative evangelicals agree that all lives matter, they are hesitant to join the movement because of its association with liberal politics. “[I]t gets fuzzy for conservatives,” said Michelle Higgins, director of the advocacy group Faith for Justice. “If I have to say black trans lives matter, I believe I am affirming something my religion calls me to denounce.”
